Overview

Anomaly Commissions are repeatable missions in Neverness to Everness that often include puzzle elements. This guide covers every puzzle type you’ll encounter and provides quick solutions. For detailed walkthroughs of specific commissions, see the linked individual guides.

Puzzle Types in NTE

NTE uses several recurring puzzle mechanics across its anomaly commissions:

1. Light/Dark World Switches

These puzzles require you to toggle between a “normal” and “anomaly” version of the environment using a switch. Items and NPCs may only appear in one world.

General Strategy:

  • Collect items in the light world
  • Use/place items in the dark world
  • Talk to NPCs in the dark world for clues
  • Always check both versions of every room

2. Jigsaw/Collection Puzzles

Find scattered pieces or items and bring them to a central location. The items are usually hidden in hard-to-see spots.

General Strategy:

  • Items always have a faint glow — look for blue/purple shimmer
  • Check behind objects, under furniture, and inside containers
  • Use your scan ability to highlight interactable objects

Commissions using this mechanic:

3. Combination/Code Locks

Safes or doors that require a numeric code. The answer is always hidden somewhere in the environment.

General Strategy:

  • Read ALL documents, newspapers, and notes in the area
  • Check nameplates, calendars, and clocks for numbers
  • The code is always 3-4 digits
  • No penalty for wrong attempts — you can guess if needed

Commissions using this mechanic:

4. Sequence/Order Puzzles

Interact with objects in a specific order (colored books, numbered switches, etc.).

General Strategy:

  • Look for visual clues in the environment (paintings, posters, signs)
  • The order often follows a color spectrum or numerical sequence
  • If stuck, try the order that appears in environmental storytelling

Commissions using this mechanic:

5. Investigation/Deduction Puzzles

Dialogue-based puzzles where you must choose correct answers to progress.

General Strategy:

  • Pay attention to NPC dialogue — the answers are always mentioned
  • Wrong answers loop you back; there’s no permanent penalty
  • Think logically about motive, means, and opportunity

General Tips for All Puzzles

  1. Use your Scan ability frequently — it highlights interactable objects with a yellow outline
  2. Read everything — environmental storytelling always contains puzzle solutions
  3. Check your quest log — sometimes hints are added to the quest description after finding clues
  4. Rotate your camera — items are often hidden behind objects or at unusual angles
  5. Don’t rush — there’s no time limit on puzzle sections (except Midnight Express)
  6. Bring a healer — most puzzles have combat sections afterward; don’t waste healing items on trash mobs
