Set Analysis
Kingdom’s Guard is the dedicated tanking set, providing DEF scaling and shield amplification. The 2-piece grants 15% DEF (the highest percentage DEF bonus from any 2-piece), while the 4-piece increases shield strength by 20%.
The shield strength bonus applies to all shields generated by the wearer, including Skill-based shields, Awakening shields, and any other shield mechanics. For characters like Adler whose primary contribution is team-wide shielding, this 20% bonus directly translates to more effective HP for the entire team.
In NTE’s combat system, shields are particularly valuable because they prevent stagger and allow DPS characters to continue their combos uninterrupted. A stronger shield means longer uninterrupted DPS windows, which often results in more total team damage than if the tank wore a DPS set.
Best Characters
Adler (S-Tier)
Adler’s primary role is team shielding. Kingdom’s Guard amplifies his shield values by 20% while the DEF bonus reduces damage he takes personally. This is his undisputed best-in-slot set for the tank role.
Fadia (A-Tier)
Fadia benefits from both the DEF and shield bonuses when built as a pure tank. However, players who want Fadia to contribute more damage may prefer Devil’s Blood: Curse instead.
