With Shinku’s debut in Neverness to Everness Version 1.2, a major topic of community discussion has been her reliance on Awakenings (duplicates). Unlike some characters who function perfectly at E0 (base level) and only gain raw damage from duplicates, Shinku has significant Quality of Life (QoL) and gameplay mechanics locked behind her early Awakenings [1].
This guide breaks down exactly what each Awakening level does, how it changes her playstyle, and whether it is worth spending your hard-earned Annulith to pull for her duplicates.
Shinku at E0 (No Awakenings)
At E0, Shinku is a capable burst DPS and energy battery for the team. However, her core mechanic—the Gaze system—can feel clunky.
To maximize her damage at E0, you must carefully manage your dodges, parries, and timing to build up her Frenzy state. Missing a dodge or mistiming an attack can severely punish her rotation. While her recent CN server buffs (which increased the trigger radius of her Charge Enhancement passive) helped smooth this out [2], she still requires a high level of mechanical skill to play optimally at E0.
Verdict for E0: Viable, but requires high skill and perfect execution. If you prefer smooth, easy combat, E0 Shinku might feel frustrating compared to characters like Chaos [3].
Awakening Breakdown
E1: The QoL Fix
Effect: Reduces the strict timing requirements for triggering the Gaze mechanic and generates additional energy when entering the Frenzy state. Analysis: This is the most important Awakening for casual players. E1 removes the “clunkiness” from her kit, making her rotation significantly more forgiving. You no longer need perfect Souls-like dodge timing to maintain her DPS output. Value: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ (High Priority)
E2: The Team Battery
Effect: Shinku’s Charge Enhancement passive now grants even more Ultimate energy to off-field teammates, and her own Ultimate cooldown is slightly reduced. Analysis: E2 transforms Shinku from a selfish DPS into a top-tier team enabler. If you plan to run her with ultimate-reliant characters (like Iroi or Hathor), E2 ensures they almost always have their Ultimates ready when they swap in. Value: ⭐⭐⭐⭐ (Great for Meta Teams)
E3: Raw Damage Boost
Effect: Increases the skill levels of her Basic Attack and Skill. Analysis: A standard stat increase. Good for overall DPS but doesn’t change how she plays. Value: ⭐⭐⭐ (Average)
E4: The Burst Amplifier
Effect: Enemies marked by her Stare passive take increased Cosmos damage from all sources for a short duration. Analysis: This gives Shinku a pseudo-support debuff. It significantly boosts her own Frenzy burst window and makes her an excellent driver for Cosmos sub-DPS characters like Mint or Hotori. Value: ⭐⭐⭐⭐ (Strong Damage Spike)
E5: Raw Damage Boost
Effect: Increases the skill levels of her Ultimate and Passive. Analysis: Another standard stat increase. Value: ⭐⭐⭐ (Average)
E6: The Infinite Frenzy
Effect: Defeating an enemy while in the Frenzy state extends its duration and refunds a portion of the Fury gauge. Against bosses, triggering a perfect dodge grants the same effect. Analysis: E6 completely breaks her limitations. It allows her to stay in her high-damage Frenzy state almost indefinitely during mob fights, and significantly extends her burst windows against bosses. It turns her into an unstoppable hypercarry. Value: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ (Whale Territory)
Should You Pull for Awakenings?
For F2P Players: Stop at E0. While E1 makes her much more comfortable to play, NTE’s hard pity is 90 pulls. Spending up to 180 pulls just to make a character feel “smooth” is not a wise investment for F2P accounts, especially with Iroi coming in Phase 2. If you dislike her E0 playstyle in the trial run, skip her entirely.
For Low Spenders (Monthly Pass/Battle Pass): If Shinku is your absolute favorite character design and you want to main her long-term, aim for E1. The QoL improvement is massive and will save you a lot of frustration in high-difficulty content like Hunter’s Crucible.
For Meta Chasers / Whales: E2 is the optimal stopping point for team synergy, as it maximizes her unique role as a DPS/Battery hybrid. E6 is incredibly powerful but unnecessary for clearing current endgame content.
