Esper Zero Overview

Esper Zero is the protagonist of Neverness to Everness and one of the strongest Cosmos Sub-DPS characters available at launch. As a free S-Rank unit obtained through the main story, Zero offers exceptional value with a kit designed around burst damage, Esper Cycle manipulation, and surprisingly effective team support through the Appraiser passive.

Zero’s primary strength is the Redirect Skill, which instantly refills Cycle Energy to trigger back-to-back Esper Cycles. This mechanic alone makes Zero indispensable in reaction-heavy teams, particularly those built around Vita Bud (Blossom) compositions. The Ultimate delivers massive single-hit Cosmos damage, serving as the primary burst window.

Best Arcs for Esper Zero

The Rain That Shook the World (Best in Slot)

StatValue
Main StatCRIT Rate 22%
PassiveCosmos DMG +30% on Redirect Skill & Ultimate
Special+36 Cycle Intensity for 15s after Redirect Skill

Zero’s signature Arc provides everything the kit demands: CRIT Rate for consistency, a massive Cosmos DMG bonus that activates on both primary damage abilities, and Cycle Intensity stacking that amplifies Vita Bud damage in Blossom teams. The 15-second Cycle Intensity buff aligns perfectly with the burst rotation window.

Marching Beyond Time (Alternative S-Rank)

StatValue
Main StatCRIT Rate 24%
PassiveATK +16%, Wastelab mechanic
SpecialUltimate CRIT DMG bonus + DEF Ignore from Wastelab stacks

A strong generalist option that trades the Cycle Intensity synergy for raw Ultimate damage. The DEF Ignore mechanic makes this particularly effective against high-DEF bosses where penetration outweighs elemental bonuses.

Day Off (F2P Option)

StatValue
Main StatCharge Efficiency 33%
PassiveATK +30%, Eclipse summon restores Ultimate Energy on kills

Available for free, Day Off provides solid ATK scaling and faster Ultimate cycling through the Charge Efficiency stat. The Eclipse summon adds minor supplementary damage and energy restoration in mob-clearing content.

Fluff of Fearlessness (Battle Pass)

StatValue
Main StatCRIT Rate 22%
PassiveATK +25% for 10s after casting Ultimate

A reliable Battle Pass option that buffs ATK after Ultimate. Since Zero’s rotation involves Ultimate into Redirect Skill, the ATK buff applies to subsequent Cycle damage. Less specialized than the signature but broadly effective.

Console Setup

  • 2-piece (Epic): Cosmos DMG +10%
  • 4-piece (Legendary): Ignores 25% of enemies’ DEF for 20s after casting Ultimate

Lost Radiance is the default choice for burst-focused Zero builds. The DEF Ignore activates on Ultimate and persists through the entire follow-up rotation, amplifying all subsequent Redirect Skill and Cycle damage.

Speedy Hedgehog (Support Build)

  • 2-piece (Epic): Charge Efficiency +10%
  • 4-piece (Legendary): Team ATK buff on Ultimate cast

For teams where Zero functions primarily as a Cycle battery rather than a damage dealer, Speedy Hedgehog provides team-wide ATK buffs while accelerating Ultimate generation.

Note: For Vita Bud teams, prioritize Cycle Intensity substats over ATK% to maximize Blossom reaction damage.

Team Compositions

Premium Blossom Team: Zero + Nanally + Jiuyuan + Hotori

The strongest Zero team exploits the Vita Bud mechanic to its fullest. Jiuyuan raises the Vita Bud limit to 6 and spawns 2 per Cycle. Nanally reduces Vita Pistil firing interval to 1 second. Hotori allows Vita Buds to fire during time-stop effects. Zero’s Redirect Skill triggers double Esper Cycles, generating massive Blossom damage.

Standard Burst Team: Zero + Nanally + Sakiri + Haniel

Zero serves as the Esper Cycle enabler for Nanally’s burst window. Sakiri provides grouping and Hex application, while Haniel buffs ATK and triggers Stain reactions. Zero switches in for Redirect Skill, triggers Cycle, then switches to Nanally for the damage window.

F2P Team: Zero + Mint + Haniel + Adler

An accessible team where Zero acts as the primary Cosmos damage dealer. Mint provides additional DPS coverage, Haniel buffs and enables reactions, and Adler offers shielding and Incantation coverage for Scorch reactions.

Rotation Guide

Standard Burst Rotation

  1. Redirect Skill → Instantly fills Cycle Energy
  2. Esper Cycle → Triggers Blossom/reaction damage
  3. Ultimate → Massive Cosmos burst (DEF Ignore activates from Lost Radiance)
  4. Switch → Pass to main DPS for their burst window
  5. Repeat → Redirect Skill again when switching back (CD should be ready)

Vita Bud Rotation (with Jiuyuan + Nanally)

  1. Jiuyuan Skill → Apply Lethal Rose Pact, generate Vita Buds
  2. Switch to Zero → Redirect Skill (fills Cycle Energy)
  3. Esper Cycle triggers → Vita Buds fire, Blossom procs
  4. Zero Ultimate → Burst damage + DEF Ignore
  5. Switch to Nanally → Skill + Basic spam during Underboss
  6. Cycle back to Zero when Redirect Skill is ready

Support Rotation (Appraiser Passive)

When running Zero in a Charge-focused team, the Appraiser passive heals the active character whenever they gain Ultimate Energy. This turns Zero into a passive healer without requiring any on-field time beyond the initial Redirect Skill cast.

Tips for Maximum Effectiveness

  • Redirect Skill is Zero’s most important ability — always use it before switching out
  • The Cycle Energy refill from Redirect Skill works even if the meter is partially full
  • Ultimate scales heavily with CRIT DMG; prioritize reaching 75%+ CRIT Rate before stacking CRIT DMG
  • In Vita Bud teams, Cycle Intensity directly multiplies Bud damage — stack it aggressively
  • Zero can function as a healer in Charge teams via the Appraiser passive without any healing investment
  • Perfect Dodge into Redirect Skill is the fastest way to generate Cycle Energy in emergencies
