Esper Zero Overview

Esper Zero is the protagonist of Neverness to Everness and one of the most versatile characters in the game. Available from the start regardless of gacha luck, Zero functions as a hybrid quick-swap sub-DPS whose primary value lies in instantly filling the Esper Cycle gauge with a single Skill cast. This makes Zero an indispensable component in Blossom, Charged, and Remora teams where rapid reaction cycling drives team damage.

Players can choose between Male and Female versions — both share identical stats and abilities. Zero’s low field-time requirement means investing in their build benefits every team they join, making them one of the highest-value investments in the game.

Best Arcs for Esper Zero

Day Off (Best in Slot — Free)

StatValue
Main StatATK 512
Sub StatCharge Efficiency 33%
PassiveATK +30%. Eclipse: each enemy defeated restores 6 Ultimate Energy (up to 5 times, 40s duration)

Day Off is obtainable for free through a quest and remains Zero’s best Arc in most situations. The Charge Efficiency substat accelerates Ultimate cycling, while the flat 30% ATK boost provides consistent damage. The Eclipse mechanic rewards clearing trash mobs before boss phases.

The Rain That Shook the World (Alternative)

StatValue
Main StatATK 512
Sub StatCRIT Rate 22%
PassiveCosmos DMG +30% on Redirect Skill and Ultimate. Cycle Intensity +36 for 15s after Skill

Superior to Day Off in Blossom-focused teams where Cycle Intensity directly amplifies reaction damage. The CRIT Rate substat also helps reach comfortable crit thresholds. Choose this when Zero is specifically built for Blossom amplification rather than general sub-DPS duty.

Console Setup

  • 2-piece (Epic): Cosmos DMG +10%
  • 4-piece (Legendary): Ignores 25% of enemies’ DEF for 20s after casting Ultimate

The standard DPS console for Zero. Since Zero’s rotation naturally includes frequent Ultimate usage, the DEF Ignore buff maintains near-permanent uptime.

Speedy Hedgehog (Support Alternative)

  • 2-piece (Epic): Charge Efficiency +12%
  • 4-piece (Legendary): All allies’ ATK +15% for 20s after the wearer casts Ultimate

When your team already has sufficient DPS and Zero’s personal damage is less important, Speedy Hedgehog converts Zero into a team buffer. The ATK buff snapshots for the entire team and refreshes with each Ultimate cast.

Module Stat Priority

SlotMain StatSubstats
Type IATK%CRIT DMG > CRIT Rate > ATK flat
Type IICRIT DMGATK% > CRIT Rate > Cosmos DMG%
Type IIICosmos DMG% or Cycle IntensityCRIT DMG > ATK% > CRIT Rate

For Blossom Teams: Prioritize Cycle Intensity on Type III Modules when using The Rain That Shook the World. This maximizes Blossom reaction damage, which often exceeds Zero’s personal damage contribution.

Team Compositions

Blossom Team: Nanally + Jiuyuan + Sakiri + Zero

The famous Nanally team and arguably the strongest composition in the game. Two Anima characters (Nanally, Jiuyuan) trigger Blossom with Zero’s Cosmos element. Sakiri adds Hexed (Incantation + Anima) for 20% Anima and Incantation damage amplification. Zero’s instant Esper Meter fill ensures Blossom triggers on every rotation.

Build Zero with Cycle Intensity in this team for maximum Blossom damage.

Charged Team: Chiz + Zero + Jiuyuan + Hathor

Doubling down on Cosmos with Chiz and Zero generates Ultimate Energy extremely fast through Charged reactions. Switching from Zero/Chiz (Cosmos) to Hathor (Lakshana) triggers Remora, and switching to Jiuyuan triggers Blossom — together they complete the Charged triangle. Chiz is the main DPS, with Hathor and Zero as burst DPS, and Jiuyuan as support/healer at A1.

Hathor Carry: Hathor + Zero + Jiuyuan + Haniel

Leans toward the left side of the Esper Cycle. Haniel (Psyche) triggers Stain with Hathor (Lakshana), inflicting Psyche and Lakshana Vulnerability. Zero helps Hathor trigger Remora — always switch from Zero to Hathor, and from Hathor to Haniel for optimal reaction sequencing. Blossom is less prioritized here, so Charged triggers less frequently.

Aurelia Carry: Aurelia + Hathor + Zero + Jiuyuan

Similar structure to the Hathor Carry team but with Aurelia (Psyche) as the main on-field DPS. Stain buffs both Aurelia and Hathor. Follow a clockwise element order: Aurelia → Hathor → Zero → Jiuyuan for optimal reaction chains.

Zero Display is a powerful team-wide buff that activates naturally through normal gameplay, further cementing Zero’s role as a team amplifier.

Rotation Guide

Standard Quick-Swap Rotation

  1. Swap to Zero when Skill is ready
  2. Cast Ultimate (if available) — activates Lost Radiance DEF Ignore
  3. Cast Skill (Appraise and Engrave) — instantly fills Esper Cycle gauge to 100%
  4. Immediately swap out — triggers Esper Cycle reaction (Blossom, Remora, etc.)
  5. Use other characters during Zero’s Skill cooldown
  6. Repeat when Skill comes off cooldown

Key Principles

  • Zero’s field time should be minimal — 2-3 seconds per rotation at most
  • Never use Basic Attacks as Zero’s main DPS; the 5-hit combo deals negligible damage compared to your carry
  • Always cast Ultimate before Skill when both are available (Lost Radiance buff applies to Skill damage)
  • The Skill fills Esper Meter regardless of whether it hits enemies — useful for pre-loading reactions
  • Zero’s passive heals the active character when they gain Ultimate Energy, providing incidental sustain

Investment Priority

Esper Zero is one of the best early investments in NTE because they slot into nearly every meta team. Since Zero is guaranteed (no gacha required), all resources spent on them provide immediate returns across multiple team compositions.

Prioritize Zero’s Skill level first (it’s the core of their kit), followed by Ultimate for burst damage. Support Skill and Basic Attack can be left at lower levels indefinitely.
