What Is 999 Nights?

999 Nights is a permanent game mode introduced in NTE Version 1.2. The premise: DSD POP releases a tabletop board game called 1000-1 Nights, and the Appraiser, Mint, Shinku, and Iroi end up getting isekai’d into the game world itself.

Inside the game, players explore the Warren Continent — a fantasy land populated by Fluffies and overrun by dragons — with the goal of defeating the Crimson Dragon at Dragon Keep. The mode features its own progression system, gear, and class mechanics that are entirely separate from the main game.

The mode unlocks when Version 1.2 releases on July 8, 2026, and remains permanently available afterward. Each time you complete a run, more content unlocks for subsequent playthroughs.

Playable Characters

999 Nights can only be played with the four characters tied to the mode:

CharacterClass RoleNotes
Appraiser (MC)AppraiserCan identify hidden gear stats at camps and merchants
MintTBDStandard party member
ShinkuTBDCosmos DPS; Dragon Knight outfit has special effects in-mode
IroiTBDAnima healer; Regression mechanic may carry over

Each character has a unique class with different gear slots, stat scaling, and playstyle. You cannot swap in characters from outside this roster.

Core Mechanics

Class System

Every character in 999 Nights belongs to a specific class. Your class determines:

  • Which gear slots are available (up to 7 total)
  • Which stat bonuses apply from armor set bonuses
  • The overall feel and playstyle of that character

Classes are fixed — you cannot change a character’s class mid-run.

Gear System

Gear is the central progression mechanic in 999 Nights. Key rules:

RuleDetail
SlotsEach character has up to 7 equipment slots
Stats are hiddenGear drops with stats and passives concealed until appraised
AppraisalIdentify gear at campfires/bonfires or at merchants
Set bonusesEquipping matching armor sets grants additional stat bonuses
AccessoriesCome with special passive effects
Visual customizationGear changes your character’s appearance; you can prioritize stats or looks
Equip restrictionYou can only change equipment at bonfires — not mid-combat

Tip: As the Appraiser, you have a built-in advantage with appraisal skills. Prioritize identifying high-rarity gear early to snowball your run.

Progression & Replayability

999 Nights is designed for multiple runs. The loop works as follows:

  1. Start a new run on Warren Continent
  2. Defeat enemies to gain EXP and level up characters
  3. Collect and appraise gear; trade at the Fuzz Merchant
  4. Complete NPC quests (many are hidden — explore thoroughly)
  5. Defeat the Crimson Dragon at Dragon Keep to clear the run

After each clear, new content unlocks for your next run:

  • Additional regions of Warren Continent become explorable
  • New gear types and stronger equipment become available
  • New quests and NPCs appear

This means your first run will be a relatively linear experience, while later runs open up significantly.

Warren Continent Overview

Warren Continent is the setting for 999 Nights. It features multiple distinct regions with different climates and ecosystems. At launch, not all regions are accessible — they unlock progressively with each run completion.

Bonfires

Bonfires are scattered across the continent and serve two purposes:

  1. Rest point — replenish HP and resources
  2. Equipment swap — the only place you can change your gear loadout
  3. Waypoint — fast travel between discovered bonfires

Locating bonfires early in each run is a priority, especially before major boss encounters.

The Fuzz Merchant

A roaming merchant found throughout Warren Continent. Visit them to:

  • Trade unwanted gear for currency or other items
  • Buy specific gear pieces or consumables
  • Accept merchant-exclusive quests

How to Beat the Crimson Dragon

The Crimson Dragon is the final boss of 999 Nights, located at Dragon Keep. Full strategy details will be updated after Version 1.2 launches on July 8.

General preparation checklist before the fight:

  • All four characters should be at or near the level cap for that run
  • Ensure all 7 gear slots are filled and appraised — unappraised gear means hidden stats you’re not benefiting from
  • Activate any armor set bonuses you’ve assembled
  • Stock up on consumables from the Fuzz Merchant
  • Use the bonfire nearest to Dragon Keep to swap to your optimal gear loadout

Gear Rewards in Hethereau

Equipment found in 999 Nights is not limited to the mode. Certain gear pieces can be brought back to Hethereau by exchanging the in-mode currency at specific vendors. This gives the mode an additional layer of long-term value beyond the runs themselves.

999 Nights Outfits

The mode introduces dedicated outfits for all four playable characters, tied to the tabletop RPG aesthetic:

CharacterOutfits Available
Appraiser (Zero)3 outfits
Mint3 outfits
Iroi3 outfits
Shinku3 outfits (Dragon Knight outfit has special visual effects)

All 999 Nights outfits support dye customization — you can change colors and textures to personalize your look.

Tips for New Players

Appraise everything. Unappraised gear has hidden stats. Even if a piece looks weak, appraise it before discarding — the hidden passive might make it worth keeping.

Explore off the main path. Many NPC quests are hidden and require you to actively search each region. These quests often reward rare gear or currency.

Plan your bonfire visits. Since you can only swap gear at bonfires, plan your route to hit bonfires before major encounters. Don’t get caught with a suboptimal loadout going into a boss fight.

Prioritize set bonuses. Mixing random gear is fine early on, but once you find two or three pieces from the same set, try to complete it — the set bonus can significantly outperform a mix of individually stronger pieces.

Use the Appraiser’s class advantage. The MC’s appraisal skills are more efficient than using campfire appraisal. Save campfire uses for when you’re away from a merchant.

This guide will be updated with full region maps, class breakdowns, and Crimson Dragon strategy after Version 1.2 launches on July 8, 2026.
