What Is the Charge Reaction?

Charge is one of two Triple Esper Cycle reactions in Neverness to Everness, triggered by the Top Trio elements: Cosmos, Anima, and Lakshana. Unlike Duo reactions that require only two elements, Charge requires all three Top Trio elements to be present on your team and both prerequisite Duo reactions (Blossom and Remora) to be active on the target simultaneously.

Charge is the premier Ultimate Energy generation reaction in the game. When active, it creates a feedback loop where Vita Pistils from Blossom hitting Remora-affected targets generate massive amounts of Ultimate Energy for the active character. This enables Ultimate-focused DPS characters to use their most powerful ability multiple times per fight — a game-changing advantage in both sustained and burst content.

How Charge Works: Trigger Conditions

Charge activates automatically when a target is simultaneously affected by both:

  1. Blossom (Cosmos + Anima) — Vita Buds must be actively firing Pistils at the target
  2. Remora (Lakshana + Cosmos) — The slow debuff must be active on the target

When both conditions are met, every Vita Pistil that hits the Remora-affected target grants the currently active character +10 Ultimate Energy. This energy generation occurs per Pistil hit, meaning multiple Pistils hitting in rapid succession generate energy proportionally.

The math becomes impressive quickly. A standard Blossom Vita Bud fires 5 Pistils every 2 seconds. With Nanally’s enhancement (10 Pistils per second), a single Bud generates approximately 100 Ultimate Energy over a 10-second window. With multiple Buds active (up to 3 standard, or 6 with Jiuyuan), the Ultimate Energy generation becomes overwhelming — enough to fully charge most characters’ Ultimates in seconds rather than the normal 20-30 second cycle.

Trigger Order: Remora First, Then Blossom

The correct trigger order for Charge is critical. You must establish Remora first, then Blossom second. This is because Vita Pistils need an active Remora target to generate energy. If you trigger Blossom first, the Pistils fire at a non-Remora target and generate no Charge energy until Remora is applied.

Optimal sequence:

  1. Lakshana character builds Esper Meter
  2. Swap to Cosmos character → triggers Remora (Lakshana + Cosmos)
  3. Cosmos character builds Esper Meter (or use Parry for instant fill)
  4. Swap to Anima character → triggers Blossom (Cosmos + Anima)
  5. Vita Buds spawn and begin firing at the Remora-affected target
  6. Charge activates — active character gains +10 Ultimate Energy per Pistil hit

After this setup, maintain both debuffs by retriggering as needed. Remora lasts 5 seconds (12 with Hathor), and Blossom Buds persist for their full duration. As long as both are active, Charge continues generating energy.

Characters That Amplify Charge

Chiz (S-Rank, Cosmos)

Chiz’s passive “Appraiser” causes each Creation Flower to split into 2 flowers that fly toward the target. This effectively doubles the number of Pistil-equivalent hits on Remora-affected targets, doubling the Ultimate Energy generation rate from Charge. Chiz is also an Ultimate-focused DPS whose damage is heavily concentrated in her Ultimate ability — making her both the best Charge amplifier and the best beneficiary of Charge’s energy generation. Building a team around Chiz + Charge creates a self-reinforcing loop where she amplifies Charge and Charge fuels her Ultimate spam.

Edgar (A-Rank, Cosmos)

Edgar’s passive “Gentle Edge” provides an alternative Charge enhancement: when Edgar triggers his Support Skill, the active character instantly receives 120 Ultimate Energy. This comes with a tradeoff — after the instant energy grant, normal Charge energy generation is disabled for 30 seconds. Edgar’s enhancement is best suited for burst-oriented teams that want one massive Ultimate immediately rather than sustained energy generation over time. The 30-second cooldown means Edgar’s Charge is a once-per-rotation burst rather than a continuous loop.

Optimal Charge Team Compositions

Maximum Charge Loop: Chiz + Nanally + Hathor + Jiuyuan

This is the definitive Charge team. Chiz (Cosmos) amplifies Charge and benefits from Ultimate spam. Nanally (Anima) amplifies Blossom to 10 Pistils per Bud. Hathor (Lakshana) extends Remora to 12 seconds. Jiuyuan (Anima) increases max Vita Buds to 6. The result is an overwhelming energy generation loop that keeps Chiz’s Ultimate available every 5-8 seconds.

Rotation: Hathor builds meter → swap to Chiz for Remora (12s with Hathor) → Chiz builds meter → swap to Nanally for Blossom → Nanally stays on field collecting Ultimate Energy from Charge → use Ultimate → swap to Chiz for her Ultimate → repeat cycle.

Charge + Remora Control: Skia + Hathor + Hotori + Nanally

This composition emphasizes Remora control alongside Charge energy generation. Skia and Hathor both amplify Remora (extended duration + increased slow magnitude). Hotori provides Cosmos element for Remora triggers and Blossom enhancement. Nanally provides Anima for Blossom and energy collection.

Budget Charge Team: Esper Zero + Mint + Hathor + Flex

For players without Chiz or Nanally, Esper Zero (free Cosmos) and Mint (A-Rank Anima) provide the core Blossom trigger. Hathor’s Remora extension is critical for budget teams because it provides a wider window for Charge activation. The flex slot should be another Anima or Lakshana character for rotation flexibility.

Edgar Burst Variant: Edgar + Nanally + Hathor + DPS

Edgar’s instant 120 Ultimate Energy is best used in teams with a single high-value Ultimate character. Trigger Charge conditions, then have Edgar use his Support Skill to instantly fill the DPS character’s Ultimate. This is less sustained than Chiz’s loop but provides immediate burst access for time-sensitive content.

Charge Energy Generation Math

Understanding the numbers helps optimize Charge teams:

Standard Blossom (no amplifiers): 5 Pistils per Bud, 1 volley per 2 seconds = 2.5 Pistils/second × 10 energy = 25 energy/second per Bud. With 3 Buds: 75 energy/second.

Nanally-enhanced Blossom: 10 Pistils per Bud, 1 Pistil per second = 10 energy/second per Bud. With 3 Buds: 30 energy/second. (Note: Nanally changes the firing pattern from burst volleys to sustained single-Pistil fire.)

Nanally + Jiuyuan (6 Buds, 10 Pistils each): 60 energy/second potential. Most Ultimates cost 100-150 energy, meaning full Ultimate charge in approximately 2-3 seconds.

With Chiz’s Appraiser (doubled hits): All above numbers effectively double, creating near-instant Ultimate generation.

These numbers demonstrate why Charge teams can maintain almost permanent Ultimate uptime in sustained fights. The limiting factor is not energy generation but Remora duration — once Remora expires, Charge stops generating energy until it is reapplied.

Charge Window Management

The critical skill in Charge teams is managing the overlap window between Remora and Blossom. Charge only generates energy while both debuffs are active simultaneously. Your rotation must ensure continuous overlap:

With Hathor (12s Remora): You have a comfortable 12-second window after Remora trigger to establish Blossom and collect energy. This is the recommended setup for all Charge teams because it provides generous timing margins.

Without Hathor (5s Remora): The window is extremely tight. You must trigger Blossom within 1-2 seconds of Remora to maximize the overlap. This requires precise meter management and often means using Parry to instantly fill meters for rapid sequential triggers.

Blossom duration management: Vita Buds persist for their full duration once spawned. If Remora expires while Buds are still active, Charge stops generating energy even though Pistils continue hitting. Retrigger Remora as soon as possible to restart Charge.

Charge in Different Content Types

Extended Boss Fights

Charge excels in long boss fights where sustained Ultimate spam outperforms single burst windows. Characters like Chiz, whose Ultimate deals massive damage and has short animation time, can use their Ultimate 5-10 times in a fight that would normally allow 2-3 uses. This sustained Ultimate output often exceeds what burst teams can achieve in total damage.

Wave Content

Charge is moderately effective in wave content. Vita Pistils have limited tracking range, so enemies must remain near the Vita Buds for Charge to generate energy. In content where enemies are spread out or move frequently, Charge uptime decreases. However, Remora’s slow effect helps keep enemies in Pistil range.

Timed DPS Checks

For short DPS check windows (10-15 seconds), Charge teams need pre-setup. Trigger Remora and Blossom before the DPS window opens, then enter the window with Charge already active. This requires fight knowledge but allows Charge teams to compete with burst compositions in timed content.

Tips for Maximizing Charge

Always run Hathor for the 12-second Remora extension. The difference between 5-second and 12-second Charge windows is enormous — it determines whether you get 1 Ultimate or 3 Ultimates per cycle.

Trigger Remora before Blossom every time. The order matters because Pistils need a Remora target to generate energy.

Keep your DPS on field during Charge windows. Ultimate Energy goes to the active character. If your Ultimate-focused DPS (like Chiz) is off-field when Charge is generating energy, the energy goes to the wrong character.

Use Parry for emergency meter fills. If your rotation stalls and you need to retrigger Remora or Blossom immediately, a successful Parry instantly fills the meter for an immediate swap trigger.

Position near enemies. Vita Pistils have limited tracking range. Stay close to ensure maximum Pistil connection rate, which directly translates to maximum energy generation.

Stack Blossom amplifiers for faster energy. More Pistils = more energy per second. Nanally and Jiuyuan’s Blossom enhancements directly multiply Charge’s energy output.
