Esper Cycle & Element Reactions
The Esper Cycle is the core combat system in Neverness to Everness. Understanding how elements react with each other determines whether your team performs at full potential or falls flat. This guide covers every reaction, how to trigger them, and how to build teams around them.
The Six Elements (Esper Wheel)
Elements are arranged in two groups of three on the Esper Wheel — a hexagonal dial that determines which elements react with each other. The core rule: adjacent elements react; non-adjacent elements do not.
Top Trio
Lakshana
Cosmos
Anima
Bottom Trio
Incantation
Chaos
Psyche
Adjacent pairs on the wheel: Lakshana↔Cosmos, Cosmos↔Anima, Anima↔Incantation, Incantation↔Chaos, Chaos↔Psyche, Psyche↔Lakshana
| Element | Group | Theme | Reacts With |
|---|---|---|---|
| Lakshana | Top Trio | Gold / Order | Cosmos, Psyche |
| Cosmos | Top Trio | Silver / Light | Lakshana, Anima |
| Anima | Top Trio | Green / Life | Cosmos, Incantation |
| Incantation | Bottom Trio | Red / Force | Anima, Chaos |
| Chaos | Bottom Trio | Purple / Dark | Incantation, Psyche |
| Psyche | Bottom Trio | Azure / Mind | Chaos, Lakshana |
Esper Meter Mechanics
Each character has an Esper Meter — a circular gauge next to their portrait. When full, the portrait glows, signaling the Esper Ability is ready. Simply swap to that character to trigger their Esper Ability and produce an elemental reaction with the outgoing character's element.
| Action | Charge Rate | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Normal Attacks | Slow | Steady trickle while on field |
| Skill / Ultimate | Moderate | Burst of energy per cast |
| Dodge Counter | Fast | Good for characters with strong dodge kits |
| Parry | Instant | Fills the entire meter in one hit |
Each character also has a Cycle Rate stat that acts as a flat multiplier on all Esper Meter generation. Stacking Cycle Rate tightens rotation speed significantly.
Duo Cycle Reactions
A Duo Cycle occurs when two adjacent elements collide — swap from one character to a neighboring-element character while their meter is charged. There are six Duo reactions, one for each bordering pair on the Wheel.
Remora
Slows enemy movement and attack speed for 5 seconds. The effect decays over time and has a shorter duration if repeatedly applied.
Enables Charge Triple Cycle. Use before Blossom to set up Vita Pistil hits on slowed targets.
Blossom
Spawns a Vita Bud turret near the target that fires Vita Pistils every 2 seconds, dealing AOE damage. Up to 3 Vita Buds can exist simultaneously.
Core reaction for Top Trio teams. Stack Nanally + Jiuyuan passives for enhanced Blossom output.
Hexed
Deals follow-up damage equal to 20% of all Anima and Incantation damage taken by the target within 12 seconds of triggering.
Front-load Anima and Incantation damage before triggering for maximum follow-up burst.
Scorch
Inflicts Damage over Time on the target for 15 seconds.
Enables Discord Triple Cycle. Enhanced by resonance passives that increase DoT damage or add debuffs.
Nova
Attaches to the enemy for 5 seconds, then detonates for massive Mental Damage when the effect ends.
Time the detonation to coincide with your DPS burst window. Enables Discord when combined with Scorch.
Stain
Increases the target's Psyche and Lakshana damage taken by 20% for 12 seconds.
A straightforward damage amplifier. Best used before unloading Psyche or Lakshana burst damage.
Triple Cycle Reactions
Triggering two consecutive Duo reactions from the same Trio (both Top or both Bottom) causes a Triple Cycle — a more powerful third reaction layered on top. There are currently two Triple Cycles.
Charge
(Top Trio)Trigger: Trigger Remora (Lakshana+Cosmos), then Blossom (Cosmos+Anima)
Vita Pistils hitting targets affected by Remora grant the active character +10 Ultimate Energy per hit.
Resonance Enhancements:
Discord
(Bottom Trio)Trigger: Trigger Scorch (Incantation+Chaos), then Nova (Chaos+Psyche)
Enemy simultaneously affected by Scorch and Nova takes massive Break/Stagger damage, rapidly depleting their Break meter.

Team Building Strategy
Blossom Team (Top Trio)
2x Anima + 1x Cosmos + 1x Support. Stack Anima passive buffs for enhanced Blossom output.
Example: Nanally, Jiuyuan, Hotori, Adler
Discord Team (Bottom Trio)
1x Incantation + 1x Chaos + 1x Psyche + 1x Flex. Balance Scorch and Nova application for consistent Discord triggers.
Example: Baicang, Daffodill, Fadia, Flex
Charge Team (Full Top Trio)
1x Lakshana + 1x Cosmos + 1x Anima + 1x Flex. Trigger Remora then Blossom for continuous Ultimate Energy generation.
Example: Hathor, Chiz, Nanally, Sakiri
Soup Team (4 Adjacent Elements)
4 neighboring elements on the wheel for maximum reaction variety. Chains Hexed, Blossom, Remora, and Charge in sequence.
Example: Skia, Chiz, Mint, Adler
Common Mistakes to Avoid
Rainbow team building
Using 4+ disconnected elements means zero reactions. Even two adjacent elements are a significant upgrade over random composition.
Wrong swap order
In a Discord team, swapping directly between Psyche and Incantation produces no reaction — they are not adjacent on the Wheel. Always route through Chaos.
Leaving characters idle off-field
Characters not on field do not generate meter (unless their kit specifically says otherwise). Rotate actively to keep all meters climbing.
Ignoring resonance passives
The biggest damage gains often come from passives that enhance a specific reaction, not the reaction itself. Build teams around stacking the same reaction passive.
Optimization Tips
Build Around Adjacency
Your team's elements should form a connected arc on the Wheel — not a scattered rainbow. 2-3 adjacent elements generate near-constant reactions.
Use Parry for Slow Chargers
Find the slowest meter-builder on your team and use them to absorb enemy attacks. The instant full-charge on parry compensates for any generation deficit.
Pre-load Before Burst
For Hexed, deal maximum Anima+Incantation damage before triggering. For Nova, time detonation with your DPS burst window.
Stack Same-Reaction Passives
Resonance passives that enhance a specific reaction apply team-wide. Running multiple characters with the same reaction passive stacks their bonuses.
