Updated July 23: Added complete rotation guide, advanced post-ult cycle, Iroi analysis, and “Should You Pull Shinku” section from community Postmortem V2.
The theoretical best-in-slot team for Shinku lists Skia as the preferred support over Hathor. In practice, community testing at A0 tells a different story. This guide covers why Hathor provides more consistent performance for A0 Shinku, the optimal rotation, and when Skia may still be preferable.
The Problem with Skia + A0 Shinku
Skia is designed to synergize with Shinku’s kit through specific timing windows. At A3+, Shinku has enough passive procs and extended skill durations to reliably trigger Skia’s buffs within the rotation. At A0, those windows are narrower and more dependent on precise execution.
The result: A0 Shinku + Skia feels clunky. The team rotation requires tighter timing, and against hyperactive bosses that interrupt your rotation, performance becomes inconsistent. Many players report frustration with the theoretical BIS team not delivering expected results at A0.
Why Hathor Works Better at A0
Hathor’s buff application is less timing-dependent. Her Remora mechanic provides consistent attack buffs that do not require Shinku to be at a specific stack count or within a precise skill window. The buffs apply reliably regardless of whether the rotation is slightly delayed by boss movement or dodge inputs.
| Factor | Skia | Hathor |
|---|---|---|
| Buff timing dependency | High (requires precise windows) | Low (consistent application) |
| Performance vs hyperactive bosses | Inconsistent | Consistent |
| Synergy at A0 | Weak | Strong |
| Synergy at A3+ | Strong | Moderate |
| Team feel | Clunky | Smooth |
Recommended A0 Shinku Team
Shinku / Nanally / Zero / Hathor
This team replaces Skia with Hathor and adjusts the rotation order to maximize Shinku’s ultimate window.
Rotation
- Cycle Shinku → Nanally first to trigger Blossom
- Cycle Zero → Hathor to apply Remora
- Swap to Shinku and use Ultimate
- Execute skill spam during Shinku’s ultimate window (target: 4–5 instant skills per ultimate)
- After the ultimate window ends, build 12 Gaze stacks on Shinku before starting the next cycle
The 12-stack Gaze rebuild step is important. Relying on basic attacks and charge triggers alone to maintain cycle regen feels inconsistent. Taking 8–10 seconds to deliberately build Gaze stacks before the next rotation provides a more reliable baseline, at the cost of a small amount of time.
Expected Performance
Based on community testing with this rotation:
| Metric | Result |
|---|---|
| Instant skills per ultimate | 4–5 (consistent) |
| Sweep opportunities | Available at end of ultimate window |
| Performance vs hyperactive bosses | Consistent |
| Subjective team feel | Smooth |
The consistency improvement over Skia is the main benefit. Raw damage ceiling may be slightly lower than a perfectly executed Skia rotation, but the average performance across varied content (including bosses that move frequently) is higher.
When to Use Skia Instead
Skia remains the better choice in two scenarios:
- Shinku A3 or higher: At A3+, Shinku’s extended skill windows make Skia’s timing requirements achievable consistently. The higher damage ceiling becomes accessible.
- Controlled environments: In content where the boss is stationary or has predictable patterns, a skilled player can execute the Skia rotation reliably and achieve higher damage output.
For most players running A0 Shinku in standard content, Hathor provides better practical results.
Alternative Teams
If you do not have Hathor, the following alternatives are viable:
| Team | Notes |
|---|---|
| Shinku / Nanally / Zero / Jiuyuan | Jiuyuan provides consistent support without timing dependency |
| Shinku / Nanally / Zero / Protagonist | Standard team; lower ceiling but reliable |
| Shinku / Nanally / Hathor / Protagonist | If Zero is unavailable |
Looking Ahead: Iroi as Shinku’s Support
Iroi (banner July 29 – August 19) is expected to provide even smoother buff application than Hathor through her sheep summon mechanic. Summons persist through character swaps, meaning Iroi’s buffs continue during Shinku’s ultimate window without requiring Iroi to remain active. If you are planning to pull Iroi, the Hathor team above serves as a strong bridge until her banner opens.
Advanced Post-Ult Cycle (Improved DPS)
Once the base rotation feels comfortable, there is a more efficient variant that improves DPS pressure without sacrificing consistency.
After Shinku’s ultimate finishes, check whether the Nanally/Iroi team icon is blinking (swap skill ready):
- Icon blinking: Skip the Gaze stack rebuild. Swap immediately to Nanally/Iroi and run the full rotation back to Shinku. When Shinku lands on field, her ultimate will not be ready — use 2–3 basic attacks to charge it, then activate as soon as it becomes available.
- Icon not blinking: You did not get enough Charge Triggers during the ultimate (likely due to dodging or chasing a mobile boss). Return to the standard rotation: build 8 Gaze stacks, then 4 more, before starting the next cycle.
This decision point at the end of every ultimate is the key skill expression in Shinku’s kit.
Iroi as Shinku’s Long-Term Support
Iroi (banner July 29 – August 19) is expected to resolve the main weakness of the Nanally variant: brittleness during the ultimate window. Iroi’s sheep summon persists through character swaps, meaning her buffs continue applying while Shinku is on field without requiring Iroi to remain active. This allows full face-tanking through Shinku’s entire ultimate window, removing the trade-off between maximum instant skills and survivability.
The community assessment is that Iroi will make A0 Shinku feel significantly more comfortable and consistent, particularly against hyperactive bosses.
Should You Pull Shinku?
With Shinku’s banner ending July 29, here is the current community consensus:
| Situation | Recommendation |
|---|---|
| Do not have two strong BtR teams | A0 Shinku is a solid top-wheel DPS; worth pulling |
| Already have Lacrimosa or Chaos teams | Marginal improvement at A0; pull only if you like her kit |
| Tight on Annulith | Save for Iroi — she has longer shelf life across multiple teams |
| Have Hathor already | Shinku performs well; the consistent team is accessible |
| Only have Skia | Expect some inconsistency; Hathor is the better pairing |
